Cutting Edge Chainsaw Magic Trick

Posted by admin on February 26th, 2009

Watch this gruesome (but compelling) magic trick video from ‘America’s Got Talent’ and tell me you’re not impressed.

Can’t do it can you…?!

The trick must start with the “man” already in position because the legs of the “man” (normal height person) has his upper body inside the table. The part that would be most likely to give away what is going on is conveniently cut from …

Magic Strategy: Becoming a Conjurer

Posted by admin on February 18th, 2009

masquewolfblog460Becoming a stage magician and learning magic strategy is like any other job in life. You have to practice your craft, learn new tricks, invent new tricks, and just work at it every day. Is it possible to make a living as a stage magician these days? Well..sure, but it’s like the acting profession…while you’re waiting for your big break, you’ll have to wait on a lot of tables.

David Copperfield is the name most people know today – although his last television special was in 2001. Criss Angle is also very popular, as are Penn and Teller – but I think more because of the goriness of their act rather than anything else. That is it, of course. Every magician needs a shtick, something that makes their act memorable and different from anybody else’s. The trappings are everything.

Magic Tricks for Kids

Posted by admin on February 17th, 2009

magic02If you’re interested in introducing your children to magic tricks for kids – the “real magic” of the conjuring trick, not the fake magic of “Harry Potter”! – then there are plenty of resources for you to locate that can help you. Of course, you may well have some experience as a magician yourself, as most parents who did magic when they were a kid seem to hand down the tradition to their own children.

There’s two ways to do it. You can go to a local store that carries magic paraphernalia – from the local superstore chain for example, or you can go to a magic shop that caters to “real” magicians. The material you purchase will depend on your knowledge of your kid. If he or she is someone who gets an interest, goes great guns for three months or so, then moves on to something else, you might want to settle for the goods at the local supermarket.

Magic Card Games: Sleight of Hand

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2009

cardseartPlaying cards of all shapes and sizes have been used for over a century, not only to play games of chance, but also to entertain as magic tricks.  Perhaps the first card game was the “Three card monte” or “Find the lady.” This is the game you normally see being played on the streets of big cities, with street entertainers earning quite a good living from people who try to apply common sense and quick eyes…which doesn’t quite work!

The standard book on magic card games was actually written in 1929 – yes, 1929! – by Blackstone.  Many magic acts were family affairs, with tricks and illusions handed down from son to son. So it is with the Blackstones – Harry Blackstone Sr, (1885–1965) and his son, Harry Blackstone, Jr, (1934–1997). It was Harry Sr. Who wrote the book, obviously! And a darned good book it is. It starts out with “Preliminary sleights,” which teaches you how to do false shuffles, dovetail shuffles, false cuts, the palm, and the glide. Don’t you just love that terminology?
