Becoming a stage magician and learning magic strategy is like any other job in life. You have to practice your craft, learn new tricks, invent new tricks, and just work at it every day. Is it possible to make a living as a stage magician these days? Well..sure, but it’s like the acting profession…while you’re waiting for your big break, you’ll have to wait on a lot of tables.
David Copperfield is the name most people know today – although his last television special was in 2001. Criss Angle is also very popular, as are Penn and Teller – but I think more because of the goriness of their act rather than anything else.That is it, of course. Every magician needs a shtick, something that makes their act memorable and different from anybody else’s. The trappings are everything.
